The Challenge
Target Transport Services Limited is a Dublin-based logistics and warehousing company that handles storage and distribution for a range of clients. When they took on a fashion retail chain as a client — with hundreds of individual items in bonded storage at any given time — the limitations of their existing paper-and-spreadsheet inventory process became immediately apparent.
Warehouse staff were logging items in and out manually, using printed sheets that were then transcribed into a shared spreadsheet at the end of each shift. The fashion client had no real-time visibility into what was stored, no way to identify specific items without calling the warehouse directly, and no formal mechanism to submit collection or movement requests without going through email chains that could take hours to resolve.
The core problem: The fashion retail client needed to remotely identify specific items in storage — by appearance, not just by reference code — and submit requests without picking up the phone. Without this capability, Target Transport couldn't fully serve the account, and the relationship was at risk.
The Solution: A Custom Glide App in Two Parts
Data Sensum designed and built a two-layer solution on the Glide Apps platform, delivered in full for €3,000 and deployed within two weeks.
Part 1 — Warehouse Operations App (Staff-Facing)
The internal mobile app, used by warehouse staff on their phones, replaced the paper-based process entirely:
- Barcode scanning to log items in and out in real time — no manual transcription
- Photo capture at point of intake, so each item record includes a visual reference from day one
- Instant stock location assignment within the warehouse grid
- Real-time inventory count visible to all staff across the team
- Built-in notification system for incoming client requests
Part 2 — Client Portal (Fashion Retailer-Facing)
The client-facing portal, accessed via a secure login, gave the fashion retail chain something they'd never had before: genuine, independent visibility into their own stock:
- Full inventory list with photos of every item, updated in real time as items arrive or leave
- Secure login so only authorised users at the fashion brand can access their own data
- 24/7 availability — no need to wait for office hours or call the warehouse
- In-app messaging to communicate directly with warehouse staff about specific items
- Request submission for collections, movements, or holds — trackable end to end
Why photos were the game-changer: Fashion items are notoriously difficult to identify by reference code alone — especially across seasons and colourways. The ability to visually confirm the exact item before submitting a request eliminated a significant source of errors and frustrated calls between the client and the warehouse team.
The Results
The impact on Target Transport's business went well beyond operational efficiency. By offering a professional, tech-enabled client experience, they were able to differentiate themselves from competitors and position the warehousing service as a premium offering — not just a commodity.
